Pickles the Very Special Pigeon was brought to a California wildlife hospital that treats hundreds of pigeons every year, but no one knew what to make of this odd bird. Why was he losing weight when he had constant access to food? Why did he just want to see outside his crate and make friends with whomever was working in the hospital that day instead of socializing with other pigeons? It wasn't long before it became clear that this bird was clinically healthy but could never be a wild outdoor pigeon.
Pickles was likely raised by humans after falling from the nest and released to "the wild" with no real survival skills. He doesn't understand he's a pigeon and has never figured out how to feed himself, so he needs to be hand-fed multiple times a day. He probably also sustained some head trauma as a baby, which led to additional longterm difficulties like not being able to fly well and being very nearsighted.
Pickles lives in San Francisco high atop one of the famous hills, safe indoors with his family now, but he loves going on adventures with them and is an avid camper. He enjoys baths, pooping on the couch, the color red, and Tiktok videos. He hates opossums and things that look like snakes.
